Enrichment Activities
Updates will be made to these activities throughout the year.
The enrichment activities are intended to encourage initiative and improve technology skills. When you have completed all your assignments, you do not sit idle or unproductively. Choose from the activities listed below and use the remainder of your class time to expand your knowledge. YOU WILL RECEIVE A GRADE FOR ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES.
Smithsonian TweenTribune: Sign in to your class for this site. Complete one of the assignments.
Web Design: Ask Ms. Elliott for your free Weebly account. Research your favorite (school-appropriate) topic. Create an informational website to inform your peers about the topic.
Collage: Go to BeFunky. Sign up using your Google account. Create a photo collage about someone famous in computer history or a photo collage about your likes and dislikes. You will need to gather photos from the Internet and save the photos to the computer. Save your collage to your Google Drive. Share your collage with me at [email protected] before the end of the quarter.
Word Processing Essay: Type an essay using one of the following prompts.
Prompt 1: Imagine that television, movies, etc. were never invented. How would you and your family spend your evening time? Do you feel as though this would change your family relationships at all?
Prompt 2: What if you created the next new important technology? What would it be and how would it change the world? Be creative here, don’t just make up something that would be a two-day fad and then pass. I’m talking about something BIG!
Prompt 3: How would your life have been different if you’d grown up 30 years earlier? 20 years earlier? 20 years later? 30 years later? How would technology have affected your life differently? Would you be a different person today?
Prompt 4: This is your rant space. Take the time to rant about a new or old technology that has inconvenienced you in some way or that you feel has a negative impact on society. Go to town!
Format Instructions for Essay:
In Word, Put your name and class period in the header, right-aligned.
Change the font to Times New Roman and the font size to 12.
Change the Line Spacing to double and the After spacing to 0 pt.
Tab to indent each paragraph.
Make up your own title and center it at the beginning of the document.
Be sure to include your name in the filename when you save your document.
This is a writing assignment. Use standard writing guidelines for your response. You must have an introductory paragraph, supporting paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph–AT LEAST, 5 PARAGRAPHS WITH COMPLETE SENTENCES). EACH PARAGRAPH SHOULD CONTAIN FROM 5 TO 9 SENTENCES.
Khan Academy: Access the Khan Academy web site. Complete the Computer Science Playlist. Be sure to email me your Spin-Offs for your grade. You may also choose modules for other subject areas after getting my approval.
Shapes Tools: In Word or PowerPoint, use the Shapes tools to recreate any of the following:
QR Generator: Using a free QR code web site, such as QRStuff.com or visualead.com, create a QR code. Download the code and save it to your files. Then, email it to me for grading. Create a code that shows one of the following:

Make a Fakebook of famous person in computer history (Choose from the file at the bottom of this page: List of Famous People in Computer History). Create the page as if you are the famous person. Create posts by writing in your famous person’s voice. Add friends to the Fakebook that make comments on your page.

Save your page so you can work on it later. When you finish, download it and email your page to me for grading.

Answer the questions in your own words using complete sentences. Put your name and class period in the header, right aligned. Submit your document when complete.

Create your own course lesson plan or jump right in and start learning. There are several courses for beginners.
PowerPoint (All About Me): Tell the audience about your favorite colors, foods, holidays, etc. This project should include all of the PowerPoint basics—adding slides/text/pictures, animation, transitions, clipart, internet pictures, and auto-advance.
Powtoon: Sign up for a free Powtoon account at http://www.powtoon.com/. Create a Powtoon show about an example of the Bruin Way or Digital Citizenship.
